Upon arrival to Bibao Airport you will be welcomed by our driver
and then transfer to the hotel. Check-in and rest of the day free to
explore Bilbao, the heart of a metropolis where more than a
million people live. The great architectural and infrastructure
projects have been the driving force of the urban and economic
regeneration of the city. The Bilbao Guggenheim Museum, the
Euskalduna Conference and Music Centre, Norman Foster's
Underground, Calatrava's airport, the towers designed by the
architects Arata Isozaki and César Pelli... are all examples of the
dynamism that exists in Bilbao. The city is situated in an area
surrounded by a fertile landscape with forests, mountains,
beaches and steep coasts. The modern transport and network of
roads run to locations nearby such as the other capitals of the
Basque Country - Vitoria and San Sebastián. Designed by the
famous American architect Frank O. Gehry, this avant-garde
building is a magnificent place to display masterpieces of modern
and contemporary art. Since its opening in 1997, the Guggenheim
Bilbao and Puppy - a floral sculpture of a dog by Jeff Koons,
located outside the museum - have become the most
internationally - known symbols of Bilbao. Overnight in Bilbao.

Today you will have the opportunity to experience the city on your own with the Hop on-Hop off sightseeing tour, where you will be able to get on and off the bus at different stops as you desire. Option: supplement for a private panoramic visit instead of the Hop on Hop off sightseeing tour. The cultural activities in Bilbao are irresistible, with two of the best art galleries in Spain, six theme mu-seums, contemporary art exhibitions and an ongoing programme with shows: opera, symphony orchestras, theatre, dance, cinema and light, pop and rock music. The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao has become the cultural and tourism driving force of the Basque Country. This spectacular building (Frank O. Gehry, 1997) is covered in titanium panels and has its own important collection, as well as sharing the largest private modern and contemporary art collection in the world with New York and Venice. The Fine Arts Museum is one of the best in Spain and has a complete art gallery with three collections: old art (El Greco, Zurbarán, Goya or Van Dyck), contemporary art (Gauguin, Ba-con or Tàpies) and Basque art (Regoyos, Zuloaga or Iturrino). The Bas-que Museum includes Basque prehistory and archaeology; the Dioce-san Museum of Religious Art and the Easter Pasos Museum hold reli-gious works connected with Bizkaia. Gastronomy is an art in Bilbao. The city is home to prestigious restaurants which offer dishes ranging from traditional cuisine to the most avant-garde culinary creations as well as the famous pintxos (typical appetisers). Bilbao is famous for being the capital of cod, because of the wide variety of mouth-watering recipes made with this fish. Going shopping in Bilbao is a unique occasion for enjoying the architectural heritage of the city and whilst out you can enjoy the popular pintxos in one of the many ta-verns or cafés lining the streets. Option: We suggest extra nights in Bilbao in able to take one of the day trips to visit: Basque Coast (Urdaibai UNESCO Heritage, Bermeo & Gernika): Vitoria & Rioja Wine Region; San Sebastian & Biarritz (France); Sanctuary of Loyola, Geteria, Zarauz & San Sebastian.
