BRAZIL – AMAZON, RIO AND IGUASSU FALLS
10 Days / 9 Nights
$ 1,399 - based on double occupancy

AMAZON RAIN FOREST, RIO DE JANEIRO AND IGUASSU FALLS

Brazil Brazil is one of the largest countries in the world and for this reason has a lot of diversity. Rio de Janeiro is definitely the country’s highlight but Brazil still has a lot to show. The paradisiacal resorts in the Northeast like Fortaleza, Recife or the multicultural Salvador are just examples of the more than 5,000 miles of beaches the country offers. Many small fishing villages are also prepared to received tourists without the crowd of the big cities. Most of the Amazon Rain Forest – the largest in the world – is settling inside Brazil’s borders and there is much to be seen. Pantanal, the lowlands in the Central-West part of the country is the best spot in the country for wildlife observation and birdwatching (while the Amazon is the best place to see the flora). Iguassu Falls in the border with Argentina is one of the wonders of the world and you can observe the falls from pretty much everywhere: from a boat running the rapids, from the top on walkways built specifically for this end or even flying over the falls on a helicopter. Sao Paulo, one of the largest cities in the world, is the industrial and financial center of the country and has a mix of people that came pretty much from everywhere in the world to build this big city. Brasilia, nestled in the middle of the country, was specially built on the late 50’s with the specific reason of being the new capital, and it’s a representation of the rich Economy of the country. The colonial cities in Minas Gerais state show all the richness brought by the golden rush with the picturesque architecture of its churches and houses. Going further south the colonization by Germans, Italians and Austrians are clearly noted in small towns where it’s not hard to find parts of the population that don’t even speak Portuguese. Hiking, snorkeling, scuba diving, water rafting, surfing and many other activities are also found everywhere in the country and many destinations are becoming specialized in this type of adventure. Brazil is the world in one country!

Manaus and the Amazon Rainforest: accommodates most of the largest rainforests in the world. The forest represents half of the planet’s remaining rainforests. Manaus is the largest city in the Amazon rainforest and has more than 1 million people living in its metro area and it’s also the natural base for tourists or researchers visiting the Brazilian side of the forest. There are many jungle lodges in the Manaus Area from where you can depart for guided tours for wildlife and fauna observation and also to visit tribes nearby. The most popular tours are the encounters of the waters of rivers Negro and Solimoes and of course the trips into the jungle for wildlife observation, trekking and even spotlight of crocodiles at night.

Rio de Janeiro: Rio is definitely one of the most beautiful places in the world. The combination of the ocean with the mountains surrounding the town is astonishing. Rio is the second largest Brazilian city and also has a booming commercial area. Besides the beaches there are many point of interest that you won’t probably be able to see in only one trip. The best views are from above and the best spots are the Sugar Loaf Mountain and Corcovado where the statue of Christ the Redeemer, the famous city’s trade mark, is set up. Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon are famous worldwide and also have a booming commercial area with world-class restaurants, shops and nightlife. Among other attractions we have also to include the Downtown Area with the cathedral and still many colonial buildings, Santa Teresa (colonial architecture and only accessible by a street car), the Rio-Niteroi bridge and Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, near Ipanema and Leblon. If you are ready for a lifetime experience and are not afraid of heights you will love hang gliding over Rio on a 15-minute tendon flight. Short trips to Angra dos Reis and Ilha Grande with their secluded paradisiacal beaches with a lot of trails for hiking. Buzios, up north, is also an easy ride. It’s only a 2-hour trip from Rio and it still has the enchantment that made it become famous in the 60’s.

Iguassu Falls: Vastly larger than Niagara Falls, Iguassu - only rivalries in magnificence with Africa’s Victoria Falls - is located in the border of Brazil and Argentina. The waterfall system consists in more than 300 falls up to 200-feet in height. Both Brazilian and Argentinean sides are worthy visiting and your trip should include a raft trip on the rapids. Iguassu is also home of the largest power plant in the world: Itaipu which is shared between Brazil and also nearby Paraguay.
